Fair Usage Policy

IMPORTANT:

Why do we have a Fair Usage Policy?

Use of our Free TfE Wi-Fi service is subject to our Terms and Conditions as defined by our equipment providers, Icomera UK Limited. Use is also subject to a Fair Usage Policy as outlined below.

This Fair Usage Policy is designed to make sure that all Transport for Edinburgh customers receive a consistent and reliable service, whatever the time of day. A very small number of our customers use the “Free TfE Wi-Fi” service inappropriately, for example by sending or downloading large files, or using 'peer to peer' and file sharing software (which may involve sending and receiving video and other large files).

This means that service quality for all users is affected, making it slower for everyone to access the internet or send and receive emails, especially at peak travel times.

By adhering to the Fair Usage Policy, you’ll help us to keep the Free TfE Wi-Fi service running smoothly for everyone.

How does the Fair Usage Policy work?

If you regularly use the service inappropriately your session may be disconnected and you’ll need to wait until after 02:00 every day to log on again without data limitations.

How do I know if the Fair Usage Policy affects me?

Our Fair Usage Policy applies to all our passengers.

If you don't use peer to peer, file sharing or other inappropriate software and you're not frequently downloading or uploading videos or other very large files, you're unlikely to be affected by our Fair Usage Policy.

Is there anything else I need to know?

All Free TfE Wi-Fi users must comply with our Terms and Conditions and in using the Free TfE Wi-Fi service you agree to these terms.

Certain types of inappropriate internet service and resources are blocked using the filters applied by our equipment provider’s content filtering service. We intend to offer access to family friendly material only.

If a user accesses, downloads or uploads material not understood or considered as being family friendly then that is at user’s own risk and the user assumes full responsibility for this action. Transport for Edinburgh, Lothian Buses, Lothian Country Buses, Edinburgh Bus Tours and Edinburgh Trams will not be held responsible for any recourse, legal or otherwise for any inappropriate or illegal activity a user of the Free TfE Wi-Fi service performs whilst using this service.

Under our Terms and Conditions, any illegal activity that takes place when using the Free TfE Wi-Fi service will be considered as a breach of our Terms and Conditions and will result in us ending your service.
